It looks like we might lose Ivan. He needs all the help he can get. PLEASE share him, it could save his life!!
I just got new today that we are -12 for kennel space and Ivan could lose his life. Ivan is a 70 lb APBT who has been here 7 months without any interest. He is our number one Hard Luck Hound because of the time he’s been here and downright bad luck.
Ivan is well-behaved, housebroken, and while he reacts to dog aggressive dogs, we have noticed playful behavior with non-threatening dogs; especially smaller dogs. However, he is definitely an “alpha dog” personality and thus a meet and greet is required between him and any other dogs he may live with.
The reason he is now at risk is because he has developed an intolerance for having his feet picked up/muzzle held. This is not unusual and I believe with training w/experienced owner this behavior WILL STOP. He has never shown this behavior before and I am 99% it’s the stress of the shelter finally getting to him. Tonight I even practiced by feeding him a handful of treats while touching his feet–no reaction. I feel this is a very minor behavior problem I feel can be worked on.
I have known Ivan on his entire misadventure at the shelter–the first time and the second time. I can promise that he IS a good dog that with an experienced owner would be an excellent buddy. Losing him would be a huge blow.
We do NOT need just adopters for Ivan, it is possible that they will let him go to foster.
Ivan is FREE OF CHARGE and comes with all his shots, neuter, microchip, new collar/tags, crate, and FREE professional training (if you are local).
He is at AUSTIN ANIMAL CENTER, located at 7201 Levander Loop Austin, TX, in kennel no.212. The number to the shelter is 512-978-0500. We are open 7 days a week from 11 AM to 7 PM. ADOPTIONS ARE NOT LIMITED TO AUSTIN AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A MEANS OF COMING TO GET THE DOG.
You can also contact me at acidxstar@yahoo.com or on my personal blog, shyfox.
If nothing else, PLEASE reblog and spread the word about him. Tumblr has saved one of our high risk dogs before!
Ivan is look for a home. If you’re interested, contact the shelter. Thank you!
If only I lived in the right damn country I’d be taking him home
